[10:00pm] jokeefe: I created https://wiki.pirate-party.us/PNC_2/12/20
[10:00pm] papegaai: Title: PNC 2/12/20 - United States Pirate Party (at wiki.pirate-party.us)
[10:01pm] Bosun: OK, Please indentify.
[10:01pm] Bosun: Joseph Klein USPP Chair Wisconsin
[10:01pm] Sayyida: Megan Klein vice chair Wisconsin
[10:02pm] Pirate_Joe: Joseph Onoroski, Treasurer, Massachusetts
[10:02pm] jokeefe: James O’Keefe, Secretary, Massachusetts
[10:02pm] Pirate_Joe: I like how we are all in order too.
[10:03pm] Sayyida: its soothing
[10:03pm] Sayyida: almost wholesome lol
[10:03pm] jokeefe: Poet and I exchanged email, but I haven’t had a good time to talk. I will setup a time before our next meeting.
[10:03pm] Bosun: Ok, the agenda is to discuss Election Support.
[10:04pm] jokeefe: Just wanted to give a status update
[10:04pm] Bosun: OK update away.
[10:04pm] Pirate_Joe: So you all have some background, I had a discussion with designanddraft yesterday.
[10:04pm] Pirate_Joe: Please continue jokeefe.
[10:05pm] jokeefe: I am good
[10:05pm] Pirate_Joe: My apologies, I thought you had more.
[10:05pm] Bosun: So ...
[10:06pm] Sayyida: well I will sell my soul and take the blog 2 days this week.
[10:06pm] Pirate_Joe: After talking with her about her independent campaign, one that we voted to not support, I wanted to make this an open discussion as to what would be involved for someone to be taken more seriously.
[10:07pm] Pirate_Joe: Souls are nice but I prefer candidates that have them intact. not just the fake ones the dem's use.
[10:08pm] Bosun: I think they would register, circulate nomination petition, have a treasurer, file the oblatory reports to the authorities.
[10:08pm] Pirate_Joe: Rep too, though they are not even worth bring up since they took in Trump.
[10:08pm] Bosun: We can't support people unless the run legally.
[10:09pm] Bosun: .. they ..
[10:09pm] Pirate_Joe: To articulate better what I mean, I was thinking of adding in a basic requirement be added in to the by-laws in order to be taken seriously by this council, such as having a strong state presence; etc.
[10:09pm] Pirate_Joe: adding the adding that is.
[10:09pm] Pirate_Joe: but I think you understand my meaning.
[10:10pm] jokeefe: I feel at a minimum there needs to be a state or local party
[10:10pm] Pirate_Joe: ^
[10:10pm] jokeefe: but I also like Bosun’s list
[10:10pm] Bosun: Yeah, that usually requires running.
[10:12pm] Pirate_Joe: We have supporting documentation for how to run for office but there has been a few people to come through that wanted to help but didn't seem to fully understand the undertaking they were setting out on. I suggest that we make that knowledge much more "in your face"
[10:12pm] Bosun: Politics is a contact sport.
[10:12pm] Pirate_Joe: Also having a debate team going would be nice.
[10:13pm] Pirate_Joe: There was someone looking to see if we pirates were interested in a debate. What ever happen about that?
[10:13pm] Bosun: A debate with who, where, when?
[10:13pm] Pirate_Joe: Not sure of the exact details, one moment.
[10:13pm] Bosun: You want to fly to Arizona and participate in a non media local debate.
[10:14pm] Bosun: That is what they asked.
[10:14pm] Pirate_Joe: And to answer your email about running, my company still needs me currently so I will be very content serving still
[10:14pm] Pirate_Joe: Ok, that would be great if we had someone in AZ already.
[10:14pm] Bosun: Yes, running is a pain in the but.
[10:15pm] Pirate_Joe: Aye, but worth it.
[10:15pm] Bosun: You need to go door to door, participate in local debates, shake hands, talk to people.
[10:15pm] Pirate_Joe: Long term goals being in office and setting people first policies.
[10:16pm] Bosun: Then run. Nobody is stopping anyone from running for office.
[10:16pm] jokeefe: I do think there is utility with paper candidates, so requiring door to door and GOTV will scare people away
[10:16pm] jokeefe: but training people to do that is important
[10:17pm] Pirate_Joe: My long term goal is state rep, happy to fight from the floors of congress. What I seek from this meeting is perhaps turning those paper candidates into something with more push behind it.
[10:17pm] Pirate_Joe: One to make them get less frustrated and to have a stronger unified team when all is said and done.
[10:17pm] jokeefe: I created https://pad.riseup.net/p/HowToGetSupportAsAPirateCandidate
[10:17pm] papegaai: Title: Riseup Pad (at pad.riseup.net)
[10:18pm] jokeefe: It will last for 60 days
[10:19pm] jokeefe: Could write ideas and structure there, then approve at next meeting and put on the wiki
[10:20pm] Pirate_Joe: I support that idea, as well as sending this link out to the SAB after the meeting to get maximum involvement.
[10:22pm] Bosun: I ran for County Exec, and also State Legislature. It is resource intensive and needs to be driven by the candidate or the candidate's committee.
[10:23pm] Sayyida: we are at 8 min mark
[10:23pm] Pirate_Joe: Still, having some basic requirements set forth in the by-laws may be a good idea. Having been nominated by their individual state in the very least should be a no brainier.
[10:24pm] Pirate_Joe: Any other basic requirements that you think we should have?
[10:24pm] Sayyida: ok I am trying to understand why we need the rules.
[10:24pm] Bosun: Political parties in primary states do not nominate.
[10:25pm] Sayyida: I thought that anyone could run as a pirate, and to be part of the USPP you had to have to have a state party and meet those requirements in the by-laws
[10:25pm] jokeefe: We aren’t likely to have primaries unless we gain ballot status in states
[10:25pm] jokeefe: we won’t gain ballot status without running candidates or a big registration drive
[10:26pm] Pirate_Joe: Because instead of flat out saying no, we can refer to the basic requirements in order to get a potential candidates a checklist that they can get done.
[10:26pm] Pirate_Joe: To say plainly, simply making a list that they have to get in, in order, to be taken seriously by the USPP
[10:27pm] Pirate_Joe: get in = get done
[10:27pm] jokeefe: this really needs to be pushed to the state parties since we are unlikely to run a presidential candidate any time soon
[10:27pm] Bosun: Yeah, people need to run, or get signatures.
[10:27pm] Sayyida: ohh i get it
[10:28pm] Bosun: Well that is simple, the need to get on a ballot, then we can support them.
[10:28pm] Sayyida: to "weed out" people who have no idea what the _ they are doing
[10:28pm] Pirate_Joe: Aye
[10:28pm] Pirate_Joe: Or if they don't know what they are doing, here is the list, get it done in that order.
[10:29pm] Pirate_Joe: ect.
[10:29pm] Bosun: Yeah, if they can't get ballot status then they don't get our backing. Not our job to put them on the ballot.
[10:30pm] Pirate_Joe: I added Jokeefe's notes from the SAB to the Pirate Pad
[10:30pm] Pirate_Joe: Any additions/removals would be appreciated
[10:30pm] Pirate_Joe: Before the motion to adjourn.....
[10:31pm] Pirate_Joe: May I suggest for the next meeting a review of active states?
[10:31pm] jokeefe: fine with me
[10:31pm] Sayyida: im game
[10:31pm] Bosun: Time is up. We have a document started.
[10:31pm] Sayyida: motion to adjourn?
[10:32pm] Sayyida: **
[10:32pm] jokeefe: 2nd
[10:32pm] Sayyida: motion to adjourn.
[10:32pm] Bosun: Any 2nd
[10:32pm] Sayyida: (no intended ?)
[10:32pm] • Pirate_Joe waits patiently.
[10:32pm] Sayyida: second i guess?
[10:32pm] jokeefe: i did
[10:32pm] jokeefe: 2nd
[10:32pm] Pirate_Joe: ^
[10:32pm] Sayyida: totally did not get that until now
[10:32pm] Bosun: Hearing no objection, good night.
[10:32pm] Sayyida: sorry
[10:33pm] Pirate_Joe: Aye, good night
[10:33pm] Sayyida: night night everyone!
[10:33pm] Sayyida left the chat room. (Quit: https://webchat.pirateirc.net/)
[10:33pm] jokeefe: aye
[10:33pm] jokeefe: good night
