The constitution allows for the establishment of monopolies for a limited time so long as it promotes the spread of knowledge, but not once has providing such monopolies been shown to increase the spread of knowledge faster than without them. Instead of spreading ideas and innovation copyright and patents have hindered progress and are in effect acting as censorship where the owner is the censor.
